Please ensure that you are following safe distancing guidelines.

Instruction

  1. (a) Understand the basic health and safety needs required for Scouts participating in Core Scouting Activities.

Core Scouting Activities:
– Camping
– Outdoor Exploration
– Outdoor Cooking
– Knotting & Pioneering

  1. (am) Discuss with your leaders the role a patrol leader plays in an expedition/camp.
  1. (b) Plan ONE Core Scouting Activity for your patrol.
    The activity must fulfil the following criteria:
    – last for a minimum of 2 hours
    – allows for the completion of a component either from the proficiency badge scheme or the progress badge scheme
    – contains proper precautions and risk assessment measures

  • 1ai. What is the importance of understanding the basic health and safety needs of Scouts?
  • 1aii. In your opinion, is maintaining high morale a neccessity or an added privilege?
  • 2ami. Based off your discussion with your leaders, would you be able to handle being the Overall-In-Charge of an expedition or camp? Why or why not, explain your stance.
  • 2amii. Scenario: You are leading your patrol on an expedition, suddenly, one of your patrol members feels like giving up, influencing the rest of the patrol to give up too. How do you increase the morale in this situation?
  • 2bi. Were there any difficulties faced when planning for your activity?
  • 2bii. Do you enjoy the process of planning an activity? Yes or no, please explain your stance.”

Competencies

  • Social Development
    Scouts will develop their sense of social responsibility by learning and understanding the importance of basic health and safety needs when conducting core scouting activities.
  • Physical Development
    Scouts would learn more about the requirements of a core scouting activity as well as the importance of identifying essential needs.
  • Intellectual Development
    Scouts will be able to expand their field of knowledge with respect to the various core scouting activities. Scouts will also learn how to problem solve and analyse various situations through the various core scouting activities.
  • Character Development
    Scouts will be able to develop their critical awareness of the activity and learn to make sound decisions.
  • Emotional Development
    Scouts will be able to build their confidence in understanding and executing core scouting activities. Scouts will also learn self-awareness through understanding the importance of a leader.

Activity Counts Towards

1a. Be able to assess the basic health and safety needs for core Scouting activities and make logistics preparations for them.

2a. Discuss with your leaders the role that a Patrol Leader plays in an expedition/camp.

2b. Plan either an Outdoor Cooking OR Knotting & Pioneering activity for your patrol
