Instruction

  1. Research on the National Pledge and understand the meaning of each line of the pledge and its significance. Scouts should make use of visual aids and present their findings in either a typewritten report or a presentation deck.
  2.  (a)Befriend a Scout within your troop that has participated in an International Scout Exchange Activity and note down your findings.
    Examples of International Scout Exchange Activities include but are not limited to:
    – JOTA / JOTI
    – Unit Exchanges
    – Jamborees

OR

  1. (b)Befriend a Scout from another country through social media and learn more about the Scouting System in their respective country.

Competencies

  • Social Development
    Scouts will understand the importance of the National Pledge and the significance behind it. Scouts will also develop a sense of social responsibility by upholding the National Pledge. In addition, Scouts will be able to make new friends from another country and exchange each other's culture. This will teach them to be open to differing opinions, social classes and ways of life.
  • Intellectual Development
    Scouts will be able to expand their field of knowledge regarding the National Pledge of Singapore. Scouts will also be able to analyse and understand how the National Pledge came about.
  • Character Development
    Scouts will be able to develop a critical awareness of the National Pledge. In addition, Scouts will learn to be open to exchanging their culture with another Scout from overseas.

Activity Counts Towards

1. Articulate what you understand from the National Pledge and how you live out the aspirations espoused in the Pledge.

2. Make friends with a Scout who has been to an International Scout Exchange Activity and record your findings in your Journal.

OR

Make friends with a Scout from another National Scout Organisation and find out more about Scouting in his or her country.
