Instruction

  1. (a) As a patrol, create a video explaining the National Symbols of Singapore.
    The video can be done through but are not limited to the following methods:
    – Stop-motion animation
    – Patrol skit
    – Narration over video

Resources

  1. (b)As a patrol, create a video tutorial on how to conduct a ceremony.
    The video must minimally include the following points:
    – Type of Drills/Commands used
    – Sequence of chosen Scout Ceremony

Reflection

  • 1ai. Why is it important for a country to have National Symbols?
  • 1aii. What do these symbols mean to you?
  • 1bi. In your opinion, what is the importance of Scout Ceremonies within your troop?
  • 1bii. Should Scout Ceremonies be preserved in this day and age? Yes or no and please explain your stance.

Variation

To run this at the troop level with all patrols being monitored by the SPL/TL as per patrol level instructions.

Competencies

  • Social Development
    Scouts will understand the importance of Singapore's National Symbols and the significance behind them. Scouts will also develop a sense of social responsibility by understanding Singapore's place in the world. In addition, Scouts will learn to work together with their patrol to create the video.
  • Intellectual Development
    Scouts will be able to expand their field of knowledge regarding the National Symbols of Singapore. Scouts will also be able to analyse and understand how the National Symbols came about to create a video discussing it.
  • Character Development
    Scouts will be able to develop a critical awareness of the National Symbols of Singapore.
