Preparation

Please ensure that you are following safe distancing guidelines.

Instruction

  1. As a patrol, research on at least 3 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Singapore.

In addition, answer the following questions about the NGOs:
– What is the Mission and Vision of the NGO and its significance?
– Who are the main beneficiaries of the NGO?
– What activities does the NGO conduct for their beneficiaries?
– How can Scouts work together with this NGO?

Scouts should present their findings through a presentation deck.

Methods of presentation include:
– Creating a presentation deck and recording a narration to describe each slide
– Creating a presentation deck and presenting it through video call

  • 1ii. Is there anything new that you’ve learnt while “exploring” the area around your school?

Variation

To run this at the troop level with all patrols being monitored by the SPL/TL as per patrol level instructions.

Competencies

  • Social Development
    Scouts will develop their sense of social responsibility by learning about NGOs in Singapore and the impact that they leave on the community. Scouts will also learn to accept different opinions by working with their patrol.
  • Intellectual Development
    Scouts will be able to expand their field of knowledge with NGOs in Singapore and their main functions.
  • Character Development
    Scouts will be able to develop their critical awareness of themselves and the community around them as well as learn to make sound decisions.

Activity Counts Towards

1m. Using the Google Street map view function, explore the area around your Troop’s school.

Through your research and knowledge of the area, share with your patrol the places of interest in the area and how they make the area vibrant and useful to the community.
